Alternative Oscars Ceremony at Welcome Hall

The final celebration came and everyone was dressed up in their most glamourous outfits for their moment on the red carpet.

After posing for the papparazzi our esteemed actors, directors and producers glided into the ballroom

Fine Dining

where they mingled with the other rich and famous celebrities from Devonport and its locale.

The event culminated in a showcase of the most prestigious films to be made in Plymouth this decade and then the awards ceremony began …

There were three awards in total, one for ‘Creativity’, ‘Performance’ and ‘Informative Content’. Our Throwaway Culture won the

Victoria Beckham Shades

award for informative content, and the other two awards were picked up by the cast and crew of ‘Wrapped in Cotton Wool’.

The third film of the evening, although not winning any awards must be recognised as the most entertaining and so a box of chocolates was won for pure comedy value.

A date has been set for the Showcase and the glitz and glamour of the Oscars is upon us.

‘Our Throwaway Culture’, ‘Wrapped in Cotton Wool’ and ‘Five Girls go Mad in Bigbury’ will be premiered at the Welcome Hall in Devonport at 5pm on 15th April.

We are expecting some bvery important people, the Lord and Lady Mayor, Nicky Wildy a local counceller and some of CoastNet’s most prominent members plus a local radio station and the Evening Herald have all said they will come.

Family Rooms media group record final narration

The Family rooms group have completed the shooting for their film. After viewing the footage it

was agreed that a narration was needed to tie the scenes together (always a big no no in blockbusters – but this is a documentary!)

After they bashed out the script they ‘volunteered’ Petra to record the voice over. She did excellently and it only needed to be recorded one! Nice one Petra.

The Manor Street Children’s Centre learn at Living Coasts

In preparation for their film on our ‘Throwaway Society’, the film group went to Living Coasts to discuss with the Education Officer Clare about litter in Torquay.

While they were there of course they looked around Living Coasts and they learned all about British sea birds, seals, penguins and seahorses.

Great fun was had by all and they got some very good information for use in their film.

Frederick Street Centre and Manor Street Childen’s centre plan for future film festival.

The two groups of young parents have been making plans for their film for the film festival to be held in late March. They have come up wth lots of ideas, but finally they have come to a decision. Their film will be about our “Throwaway Society” and the impact our lifestyle has on the marine environment in and around Plymouth. They begin filming in 2 weeks time at various locations around Plymouth.

We will keep you updated of their progress on this blog.

Amazing views from under the water

had so much fun on the aquarium visit that we decided to go to visit them.

We had a lovely guided tour provided by Caroline Johnson from the educational team who explained to the children and adults all about the unusual fish and mammals they had in the centre. Great fun was had by all and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

It was followed up by a lovely snack and then onto play in the soft play area – parents and children alike!

the Aquarium sent one of their educational team to the childrens centre and delivered a range of child friendly educational activities.

Great fun was had all round.

Visited by our marine expert Maya Plass, a whole host of fun activities were in place. Although the children did seem more interested in the shredded paper! Look at our photos below….

Family rooms plan for future film festival

The parents at the family rooms based in Mount Wise School have had some experience of filming now, and are preparing for a film to be shown at a film festival in late March. The film is to be titled ‘Cotton Wool Society’ and is going to be about how we as parents are more afraid for our children now than our ancesters. The film will be an intergenerational approach featuring stories from granparents, mums and children, and will analyse modern fears to see if they are justified or unsubstantiated. Filmed on location at Looe beach the families will discuss family holidays and how the media impacts on the activities and freedoms our children have compared to older generations.

Should be an insightful and educational film!

The Family Rooms Group go to Living Coasts

After viewing a short film on You tube about the Living Coasts Centre in Torquay, they wanted to make a film of their own! We organised the trip and they created the storyboard and off we went……

…… The families really enjoyed the trip – although ordering the food was a bit of a drama – Michelle’s never got ordered (sorry Michelle), and the children all learned something. Watch this space for photo’s and comments.
